Learn how to put fairness at the heart of local climate action in this lunchtime learning on a just transition.
Understand how just transition principles can guide your local climate action
The UK’s transition to net zero will affect everyone differently. At its heart must lie a commitment to social and climate justice: one which prioritises fairness, and ensures that no community is left behind as we decarbonise. This will help rectify some of the damaging systems that have led to the inequality we see today in wealth, health and environment.
Across the country, local authorities and charities are already demonstrating what best practice looks like in the delivery of a just transition, building support for inclusive climate action.
This webinar will showcase examples of how local authorities are delivering a just transition in communities, sharing case studies and frameworks to inspire your own work, including:
- An introduction to climate justice and how local authorities can embed this in their work, with Professor Jafry from Glasgow Caledonian University
- Just energy transition: Citizens advice will provide insight on their advocacy for a just energy transition, and what this means for residents across the UK.
- A just transition plan: We will hear from the London Borough of Newham, which has created the UK's first just transition plan, tackling interlocking social, economic, and environmental challenges.
- Using data to guide action: Westminster Council will share their environmental justice measure, helping them to understand how local climate action can affect different communities within their authority.
Councillors and Officers alike will leave feeling an increased sense of confidence around the just transition, what it means, and how you can ensure that policies for the local net zero transition are inclusive and fair for all.
