Lunchtime Learning: Retrofitting for Net Zero

Homes & Buildings

The UK has some of the oldest and leakiest housing stock in Western Europe, with buildings accounting for around 17% of the UK's emissions.

With approximately two-thirds of homes having an EPC rating of D or below, and 85% being heated by gas, the scale of change required is significant. There are a number of challenges which still need to be worked through to scale up the deployment of retrofit across communities, but these are not insurmountable. Future-proofing homes for Net Zero will also protect residents from ongoing energy price volatility and illnesses caused by cold and damp homes.
